What is the difference between a game on pc and it's console counterpart?

I speak mostly about games that will be on multiple platforms i.e. DC Universe Online or Dragon Age Origins, but mainly i ask what is a distinct common difference between most games launched on multiple platforms just in case i miss out on some things if a pc or it's console counterpart has exclusive content and/or features. What is the difference between a game on pc and it's console counterpart?
Usually if a game is re-released on a console/pc then there are some new features. Console games tend to have better graphics (but that is changing) and play more smoothly. Using RE5 as an example, the PS3 and the 360 versions to the best of my knowledge are the exact same in the way of gameplay and extras. The PC version, however, got released 6 months later than the console versions and it has better graphics, stereoscopic vision capabilities, and new costumes. The flip side is it doesn't have the Slayers mode available yet. PC games are usually able to be modded allowing for some new fun, while console games generally can't. Another example is RE4, the Gamecube edition came first which had better graphics than the PS2 port, but the PS2 had new costumes, 1 new weapon, and a bonus chapter. The PC version was a direct port of the GC version, but until the patch was released it had no lighting effects at all. The Wii version was an upgraded GC version with the PS2 extras added in and I'm not sure what else.

Finally, map packs, extra characters, and other downloadable content (DLC) is usually free for the PC while console owners have to pay extra. COD WaW: map pack 2 is 500(?) Microsoft points for the 360 (not sure exactly) and it's free for the PC.

If a particular game has been launched on all platforms (pc and console) from the get-go then wait a bit and get the version you want after the differences have been found. If the game has been released for only a few of the consoles (like PS3 and 360 but not PC) and if it has a history for being on all of the current platforms (like call of duty and resident evil), then you might want to wait or do some digging to see if it will be released for those platforms later (provided it isn't exclusive to one console or PC like Halo). What is the difference between a game on pc and it's console counterpart?
For me, the only conterpart of playing on a console is that in FPS, you are not as fast and as precise as you can be with a computer mouse. For the rest of the games that don't require extreme precision, I like it better on my console (PS3) because there is no worry about lag, because it always works, and I prefer being in the living room close to my family rather than playing like a loner in my basement.
