PS3 - Red flashing Light?

I know this is a subject that everybody seems to touch upon but here's my entire story:

I'm playing Dragon Age: Origins and then all of a sudden, my PS3 just turns off. I try and turn it back on and then it works as usual with the PlayStation intro and dashboard interface but after 4 or 5 minutes, it turns off again and the red light starts flashing.

However, there isn't a yellow light so I'm not entirely convinced that my PS3 is dead. I was looking at some internet forums and most of them generally concluded that it was due to overheating so I cleaned out the fans, cooled it off with a lot of space and didn't play on it for over a day. I went back on there and it started as normal but froze instead so I turned it off and then back on but it has the red flashing light yet again.

Any help would be appreciated. (I've had the console for over five years so warranty is out of the question.)PS3 - Red flashing Light?
It sounds like the YLOD, it flashes yellow for a split second and then just flashes red until the system is unplugged (or the power switch on back is turned off if you have a Fat PS3). If it's still under warranty, go to the PS3 website and you can send it in to be fixed. If not, you can still send it in, but it will cost about $100.PS3 - Red flashing Light?
That's the same thing that happened to mine. Luckily I used the guide and video tutorial located in the website below to fix my ps3. Took about an hour, and honestly it's not a permanent fix. You might want to reflow it, and then trade it into gamestop, and buy a new one. Because otherwise it will just break again within a short amount of time, unless you do a reball. A reball is way more difficult than a reflow though.PS3 - Red flashing Light?
I read something about this online take all plugs out wires @ bak ov ps3 and turn router off if you have it leave it for 5 mins then plug it all back in shoudl all work
Hi John,

Unfortunately the red light is the same problem and it all stems from the GPU and the CPU which are the main chips in the console.

The GPU deals with the graphics and the CPU is the number cruncher.

If you are getting this error you will need to fix it by stopping the heat build up on these 2 chips and you can either do this by sending it in or using a good repair guide to fix it.

The freezing normally happens before the red lights as the soldering snaps off.

I hope this helps?

Let me know if you need anymore help?
