Questions for long-term gamers about in-game glitches?

Hi guys (and gals)

I'm taking a journalism class and wanted to write an article about how in-game glitches for console games have changed over the years. I'd love your input! If you know of anyone who wants to contribute please share these questions with them.

Any input would be great, please feel free to use these questions as simple guidelines. Also, for the sake of source verification, would you mind giving me, either in private message or my email at : james.lyons.iv@gmail.com , your full name and location?

I'm happy to answer any questions you have, and thanks for your input!

The purpose of this interview is to discuss what you expect in a console game today, and if your expectations for quality have changed over the year with specific reference to the number of in-game glitches left on retail ready games.

1. How long have you been playing video games?

2. What type of games do you enjoy playing? Have they changed over the years, specifically with the availability of internet-for-console technology?

3. Can you think of any examples of poorly-developed game releases? If they were in a series (joystick sensitivity in Assassins Creed 2 for PS3/ Game crashes in Dragon Age: Origin for PS3 and Xbox 360) has those glitches affected the likelihood of purchasing another in the series?

4. Do you rent or buy video games? What鈥檚 your annual budget for games?

5. Have you noticed a change in quality of the games released? How so?

6. How do you feel when buying a console game that the developers expect you to later update for glitch-repair?

7. Should console games be held to a higher standard than PC/MAC games, which for years have required subsequent updates?

8. What is the responsibility of a game developer like THQ or BioWare when selling video games?

9. Has the increase of in-game glitches affected your buying habits?

10. Do you feel that game developers take full responsibility for glitches in their games? As a customer do you feel developers 鈥榩riorities are in the right place?

11. Has your impression of large game developers changed over the years?

12. Would you like to see console manufacturers, e.g., Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, creating strict guidelines for games on their platform?

13. How do you think the competition for titles has played out regarding quality, for the various console companies and groups?

14. What would you like to tell game developers for future game releases?Questions for long-term gamers about in-game glitches?
1. How long have you been playing video games?

7 years.

2. What type of games do you enjoy playing? Have they changed over the years, specifically with the availability of internet-for-console technology?

Racing and games like Tales of Symphonia, action RPG I think.

I can't really think of any, but it would probably affect people buying the game if it had well known glitches in the first one.

4. Do you rent or buy video games? What鈥檚 your annual budget for games?

Usually I buy them, or my mom does. We rarely do though, we only bought the last games because we only had Wii Sports and Sports Resort for it.

5. Have you noticed a change in quality of the games released? How so?

The quality has definatly gotten better, people can look more realistic or move more realisticly. Like when they turn, their hair doesn't go through their body and disapear...

6. How do you feel when buying a console game that the developers expect you to later update for glitch-repair?

It's an alright idea, but their shouldn't be any glitches in the game to begin with. None that would damage playing it.

7. Should console games be held to a higher standard than PC/MAC games, which for years have required subsequent updates?

Console games, in my opinion, are played more than pc games, so I think that console games for have somewhat higher quality than pc games, but PC games come out later and more rarer (is that a word?) than console games, so they should take that extra time to get their quality as good as console games.

8. What is the responsibility of a game developer like THQ or BioWare when selling video games?

The answer is in my head, but I can't seem to put it into words.

9. Has the increase of in-game glitches affected your buying habits?

If I can still play the game for an hour and not run into a glitch, I'm fine. But if it happens a bunch of times within an hour, I'd rather return it or not buy the next game.

10. Do you feel that game developers take full responsibility for glitches in their games? As a customer do you feel developers 鈥榩riorities are in the right place?

I think they take some responsiblity, but they don't take them all.

11. Has your impression of large game developers changed over the years?

Not really.

12. Would you like to see console manufacturers, e.g., Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, creating strict guidelines for games on their platform?

Nah.

13. How do you think the competition for titles has played out regarding quality, for the various console companies and groups?

I think the companies are a little bit of enemies, but I don't think they really care.

14. What would you like to tell game developers for future game releases?

Make it interesting. Don't make it very predictable. Like if a boss can't be defeated, have another route the people can go through.Questions for long-term gamers about in-game glitches?
1. 15 years

2. now 1st person shooters, i used to play an epic amount of racing games because when i was little my parents only let me buy racing games

3. Cant think of a glitchy game off the top of my head but hasnt affected me playing but possibly purchasing

4. rent and buy 500 bucks

5.yes! its gone downhill. When the 360 and ps3 first came out everything looked amazing (video quality) recently i feel like the video quality sucks and developers are just rushing to get the game out. Alan wake is a great example. Amazing story line and a great game but graphic werent so great at all

6. glitch repair update isnt a big deal to me. It's somewhat expected especially after playing mmo's. It doesnt bother me but it seems strange updating games on consoles.

7. Yes! consoles are supposed to be specifically for gaming i could care less about susans facebook status about how her date went when i want to play black ops. The quality should be noticeable at the least.

8. develop games that compliment the available resources and not to just throw some trash out for people to buy.

9. nope

10. nope and nope. Theyll same something about ideal conditions werent available and money is most likely their first priority (i dont know to many big gaming companys personally just an opinion)

11. Yes since ive learned what goes into making games

12. developing standards might be a good idea. no restrictions just a quality control more like guidelines than rules

13. i feel like less competition has promoted better development

14. to actually try and make something that looks good dont just focus on the story (which IS important). Games need to have a balance of graphic, gameplay, and story quality not 2 of the 3
